Russian Lacquer Palekh-Style Decorative Plate

A circular decorative plate featuring traditional Russian lacquer art, specifically in the style of Palekh miniature painting. The central motif depicts a classic Russian folklore scene, likely 'The Firebird' or 'Prince Ivan,' rendered in vibrant tempered paints with high-contrast red, green, and orange hues against a deep black lacquer background. The central figure is a knight on horseback with a distinct orange steed, red cape, and detailed shield, set against an ornate background of a red-spired kremlin and stylized nature. A mythical firebird flies overhead. The artwork is framed by a delicate, hand-painted gold filigree border of repeating scrollwork and geometric patterns. The plate appears to be made of papier-mâché or a similar resin-bonded wood composite, typical for Russian export lacquerware. Notable condition issues include two significant structural cracks extending from the rim toward the center, which severely impact the integrity and value of the piece. There is surface scratching and scuffing along the outer black rim, as well as a large retail adhesive sticker obscuring a portion of the central artwork. A small gold signature in Cyrillic is visible near the bottom of the central painting.
