The chair features a distinctive tall, shield-shaped backrest upholstered in a brown stamped or embossed leather with a repeating dimpled pattern, bordered by decorative brass nailhead trim and floral-motif bronze or brass rosettes. The seat is upholstered in a contrasting smooth black leather, also finished with a brass nailhead trim. The frame is constructed from a dark-stained hardwood, possibly walnut, featuring ornate turned stiles topped with carved finials. A highly prominent feature is the decorative front stretcher, which displays deep relief-carved baroque scrollwork and volutes. The legs are baluster-turned and terminate in block feet. Regarding condition, the piece shows significant signs of age and wear: the black leather seat is cracking and peeling along the front edge, revealing the underlying filling, and there are visible scuffs and finish loss throughout the wooden frame, particularly on the lower stretchers and feet. The diverse upholstery suggests the seat may have been professionally recovered at a different time than the backrest.
