Sterling Silver Marcasite and Black Gemstone Band Ring
This is a sterling silver band ring, featuring a continuous decorative pattern around its exterior. The ring appears to be made from polished sterling silver, as indicated by its bright silver color, which has recently been cleaned with sterling silver cleaner, moving from a 'normally darker looking' state. The band is relatively wide, with a flat profile on the inside and a slightly rounded or softened edge on the top and bottom exterior. The primary decorative element consists of a repeating pattern that incorporates both tiny black gemstones and what appears to be marcasite, or a filigree pattern that mimics its textured, faceted appearance. The pattern features alternating diamond-shaped motifs and elongated, leaf-like or marquise shapes on either side, creating a sense of symmetry and flow. Each of these shapes is richly detailed with the tiny, dark, faceted stones, creating a sparkle and contrast against the silver. The areas between the patterned elements are either recessed or finished with an oxidized, darker silver contrast to enhance the design's depth, although the recent cleaning might have brightened some of these areas as well. The inside of the band is stamped with '925', confirming its sterling silver composition. The craftsmanship appears to be of good quality, with all gemstones intact and uniformly set. There are no visible signs of damage, missing stones, or significant wear beyond what might be expected from a pre-owned piece. The style suggests an early to mid-20th-century influence, potentially Art Deco or Art Nouveau revival, which often featured marcasite and intricate silverwork. Its overall presentation is elegant and classic, suitable for daily wear or as an accent piece. The current bright state is a result of cleaning, suggesting it holds up well to maintenance, while its original darker patina would have offered a more antique aesthetic.
