Elgin Type A-11 8-Day Aircraft Clock

This is a vintage Elgin 8-day military aircraft clock, specifically a Type A-11 model commonly used in United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) aircraft during World War II. The clock features a matte black dial with high-contrast white Arabic numerals and a center seconds hand. The dial is marked with '8 DAYS' below the 12 o'clock position and 'ELGIN CASEY TYPE A-11' above the 6 o'clock position. It is housed in a square, black-painted metal casing with four mounting holes at the corners, currently mounted in a custom-made square wooden desk stand with rounded edges and a visible grain. A prominent winding and setting knob is located at the lower-left corner of the clock face. The hands and markers appear to have aged luminous paint, which has developed a beige or cream-colored patina. Visible condition includes some scratching on the crystal and minor wear/chipping on the black finish of the metal bezel. The wooden block shows some light surface scratches but appears well-polished. These clocks were precision instruments designed to withstand high vibrations and temperature fluctuations in military cockpits, indicating high-quality mechanical craftsmanship from the 1940s era.
