Vintage Steiff Gaty Cat Mohair Hand Puppet

This is a vintage mohair hand puppet representing a tabby cat, likely produced by the renowned German toy manufacturer Steiff as part of their 'Gaty' series, circa 1950s-1960s. The puppet is constructed from cream and grey mohair with airbrushed black and grey tiger stripes on the head, ears, and sides. It features small green or black glass/plastic eyes, a hand-stitched pink yarn nose and mouth, and remnants of what once were nylon whiskers. The internal structure is a hollow felt-lined sleeve designed for a hand to manipulate the head and arms. Condition-wise, the piece shows significant play wear consistent with its age as a child's toy. The mohair is matted with notable thinning and 'balding' patches across the torso. There is visible surface soiling and yellowing typical of vintage fibers.
