The obverse features a detailed depiction of a prospector panning for gold, a prominent and iconic design for Engelhard rounds. Surrounding the central image, along the rim, is the inscription "ENGELHARD" at the top, and at the bottom, the words "1 TROY OUNCE". The fineness of the silver, typically '.999 Fine Silver', is usually also present, though not clearly legible from this image.
