This is a single vintage United States postage stamp issued in 1965 to commemorate the 700th anniversary of the birth of the Italian poet Dante Alighieri. The stamp features a vertical rectangular format with a maroon or dark rose-colored monochromatic intaglio print on cream-colored paper. The central illustration depicts Dante Alighieri in a classic laurel wreath, holding a book labeled 'Dante,' with an allegorical scene in the background including a winged figure and a panoramic landscape representing the Divine Comedy. Across the top, a banner reads '700th ANNIVERSARY,' while the bottom contains the denomination '5c' flanked by 'UNITED' and 'STATES.' Regarding condition, the stamp is in 'used' state, evidenced by a faint black ink wavy-line machine cancellation mark visible across the center. The perforations appear largely intact, though there is some slight unevenness or 'nibbling' on the left edge near the center and the bottom-right corner. The centering is favorited toward the bottom and left sides, with much narrower margins on those edges compared to the top and right. The paper shows mild aging or toning consistent with a mid-20th-century philatelic specimen. It was printed by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing using a rotary press.
