Vintage Atco Ship's Wheel Aneroid Barometer

This is a mid-20th-century table-top aneroid barometer designed in a nautical ship's wheel motif. The central instrument is housed in a polished, deep reddish-brown mahogany-finished wooden circular frame, which is accented by eight protruding brass spokes (handles) acting as feet and decorative elements. The dial face is a cream color with black and red serif typography, featuring traditional weather indicators such as 'Stormy', 'Rain', 'Change', 'Fair', and 'Very Dry', alongside a dual-scale measurement for barometric pressure. A notable feature is the 'ATCO' logo in a diamond shape at the bottom of the dial, which is the mark of the American Thermo-Ware Company. The center of the dial is open to reveal the brass mechanical anaerobic bellows and movement, adding a technical visual interest. The brass components show moderate signs of age including surface patina, tarnishing on the protruding spokes, and minor scuffing. The wooden rim retains a high-gloss finish but exhibits light surface wear consistent with age. Such pieces were popular nautical-themed décor items from the 1950s through the 1970s, intended for home or office use as both a functional scientific instrument and a decorative desktop accessory.
