Victorian Eastlake Style Walnut Dresser with Marble Top and Pier Mirror

This is a significant antique dresser crafted in the Eastlake style, dating from approximately 1870 to 1890. The piece is constructed primarily of walnut with secondary woods likely being poplar or pine. It features a high-back pier mirror with a highly architectural crest rail, including incised carvings, dental molding, and a central burl walnut medallion. The verticality is emphasized by two fluted columns supporting the upper gallery. The base consists of a 'man-and-wife' configuration with twin upper glove drawers and two full-width lower drawers. A key feature is the three-piece variegated grey and white marble top, which was a marker of luxury during the period. The hardware appears to be original cast brass teardrop or ring pulls with decorative backplates characteristic of the Aesthetic Movement. The condition shows significant signs of age and use, including localized finish loss on the drawer fronts, surface scratches, and a heavy patina. There is visible wear on the lower plinth base and some clouding or silvering loss on the original glass mirror. The craftsmanship is high, utilizing mortise and tenon joinery and hand-cut dovetails on the drawers, reflecting the late 19th-century transition from bespoke to mechanized furniture production.
