Vintage Korean Najeon Chilgi Mother-of-Pearl Inlay Lacquer Box

This is a rectangular decorative jewelry or keepsake box crafted in the traditional Korean Najeon Chilgi style. The piece features a deep black lacquer finish over a wooden frame, serving as a high-contrast ground for intricate mother-of-pearl (abalone) inlays. The lid is decorated with a naturalistic scene of birds perched among blossoming branches, likely plum blossoms or cherry blossoms, symbolizing spring and longevity. The front of the box features flanking floral motifs and two soaring birds. The inlay displays high-quality iridescence with hues of blue, green, and pink. A prominent feature is the large, ornate brass latch and hasp assembly, which is engraved with fine linear patterns and bird imagery, consistent with mid-20th-century Korean craftsmanship (circa 1950s-1970s). The box sits on an integrated bracket-style base with a scalloped apron. Regarding condition, the lacquer shows some surface dust, fine micro-scratching from handling, and a circular dull spot or adhesive residue on the lower right front face. The brass hardware shows a light patina but remains functional. The edges of the lid show slight wear typical of vintage storage pieces, but the inlay appears largely intact without significant loss.
